The Book Elves love a summertime barbeque, but their competition with the
neighbors got a bit out of hand this month. It started with a spirited
discussion about how fast a barbeque could be brought up to cooking
temperature, followed by some experiments with a variety of accelerants I
am not going to list here, and somehow ended with a bushel of charcoal, a
half-gallon of liquid oxygen, and a match taped to the end of a
fifteen-foot pole...

All I remember is a “whooooshing” noise as the charcoal, the pole and the
grill all disappeared in a blinding flash. When we picked up afterwards,
there were just these itty, bitty pieces of charred aluminum at the bottom
of a two-foot hole. The Book Elves were last heard muttering something
about a clam bake.

But while the Fire Dept. ponders who to charge, and the Dept. of Homeland
Security analyzes the odd flash they spotted on their satellite photo, the
Book Elves finished our latest catalog-
